Description

Grand Cayman blue iguana (Cyclura lewisi) is a severely endangered species of lizard found only on the Caribbean island of Grand Cayman. They are distinguished by their bright blue coloration and great size, with adults reaching 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length.

Less than 20 Grand Cayman blue iguanas were found to be living in the wild at the beginning of the twenty-first century because of habitat degradation, hunting, and the introduction of non-native species. But because to conservation initiatives, the population has since increased to around 1,000 people.

In accordance with the legislation, it is forbidden to damage or capture Grand Cayman blue iguanas without a permit. Their international trade is governed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which also lists them.

Grand Cayman blue iguanas need a sizable, airy cage in captivity that has a temperature gradient, lots of hiding places, and locations for sunbathing. They eat mostly vegetables, fruits, and leafy greens because they are essentially herbivores. Before choosing a Grand Cayman blue iguana as a pet, it is crucial to conduct careful study and speak with a veterinarian with knowledge of reptile care.
