Yellow pigments are either absent or less abundant in these species. It may also be a result of a missing or inadequate xanthophore pigment metabolism. This mutation only affects the pigment cells in xanthophores. In many ways, these creatures are the polar opposite of their amelanistic counterparts. They still exhibit their distinctive patterns but are far less striking than amelanistic types.
