Description

Albino Het Axanthic Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus) has a particular genetic morph known as Het Axanthic Hognose Snake. An albino snake has white or yellow scales and red eyes because it lacks the melanin pigment. Het (short for “heterozygous”) Axanthic denotes the presence of the Axanthic gene, even though it does not manifest itself in the snake’s colour, in its genetic composition. Another genetic mutation known as xanthic results in snakes with gray, silver, or black scales.

Hognose snakes are non-venomous, tiny snakes found in North America. They are distinguished by their upturned snouts and their proclivity to act dead when frightened. They eat mostly tiny rodents and amphibians. Albino Het Axanthic Hognose Snakes require a good enclosure with adequate heat, humidity, and hiding spots. They also require a diversified diet of rodents of varying sizes.
