Description

Juvenile South African White Throat Monitor for sale (Varanus albigularis albigularis) is a southern African lizard. They are typically gray-brown with yellowish or white markings and can grow to be up to 2 metres (6.6 feet) long. They can be found from Southern Africa to Angola, Zambia, and Mozambique.

Varanus albigularis albigularis are generalists that graze on a wide variety of species in the wild. Tortoises are an important element of their diet and are swallowed whole due to their tough shell. Otherwise, they feed mostly invertebrates, especially millipedes, beetles, mollusks, and orthopterans, and consume relatively little vertebrate prey. Millipedes, for example, account for about a quarter of their food; the monitors appear to be immune to their deadly secretions. Although not opposed to scavenging the remains of vertebrate prey, even those as large as vervet monkeys, such prey appears to be too swift for these monitors to catch.
