Description
The Siamese cat-eyed snake (Boiga siamensis) is a non-venomous snake found in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It gets its name from its huge, cat-like eyes with vertical pupils, which give it a distinguishing appearance.
Siamese cat-eyed snakes seek for prey including birds, lizards, and small animals while they spend the majority of their time in trees and plants. They are rear-fanged snakes, which means that their tiny fangs, which are used to restrain food, are positioned at the back of their mouths.
Although the Siamese cat-eyed snake is not dangerous to people, it may bite if threatened or trapped. The bite is not normally dangerous, although it can cause discomfort and edema. If met in the wild, the Siamese cat-eyed snake should be treated with respect and caution, as with other snakes.
