Description

Baja Blue Rock Lizard for sale (Petrosaurus thalassinus) is a diurnal phrynosomatid lizard species.

It has a flattened body with small, smooth, granular scales and slightly keeled scales near the tail and can grow to be 45 cm (18 in) long including the tail. The head is azure with red to orange around the eyes, and the neck is yellow with blue patches and streaks. The tail’s back is gray blue with darker cross bars. During the breeding season, both sexes’ colouring intensifies.

Petrosaurus thalassinus is most commonly found among rocky canyons, boulder-strewn hillsides, arroyo bottoms, and sea-side cliffs. These lizards tend to be most prevalent on rocks near huge trees or other plants, and are infrequently encountered in places with no vegetation.

It can be found in the Sierra la Laguna (and its related mountains) and Sierra la Trinidad of Baja California Sur’s Cape region, as well as on the Gulf’s Islas Espiritu Santo and Partida Sur. Sierra la Laguna elevation distribution from sea level to 2,020 meters.

It enjoys temperatures above 90 °F and basks on desert rocks in direct sunlight. Its flattened form lets it to swiftly withdraw into rock crevices to evade predators and severe weather conditions. When threatened, it can flap its skin around its throat. When caught, it, like many lizards, can drop its tail.

This species is common in the area and can be found on various protected islands. It does not currently require particular protection. However, because of its limited range, it may be subject to disturbance.
