Description
Yellow Quince Monitor (Varanus flavescens ) or golden monitor is a monitor lizard native to South Asia. The yellow monitor is a medium-sized monitor, measuring from snout to vent between 45 cm and 95 cm including the tail and weighing up to 1450 gm.
Yellow Quince Monitor for sale occurs in the flood plains of the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. It inhabits wet areas, on the edges of forest and near human settlements and agricultural land. Due to its short hind toes, it is not efficient at climbing trees.
Like other diurnal lizards, the yellow monitor thermoregulates by traveling between sunny and shady locations. There has also been one report of a yellow monitor resting on a pile of hot ash left over after a human-lit fire, ostensibly to gain heat from it. It could exhibit playful behavior. A yellow monitor was discovered in a marsh alternating between swimming vertically and floating motionlessly.
The main hazard to the yellow monitor is direct killing. The majority of killings are related to the usage and trading of skins, and the majority of killings are caused by local people’s lack of information about the species. The main problem is ignorance, and no efforts are being made to raise awareness or educate the local population. The species faces a greater threat because the majority of its potential habitat is outside of protected areas and is frequently located close to human habitation, which makes the creation of protected areas insufficient for the species. Its skin has been put up for sale in wildlife markets in Nepal.
