Description
East Indian leopard gecko (Eublepharis hardwickii), also known commonly as Hardwicke’s gecko, lives in Bangladesh and East India’s low mountains, between 500 and 1,500 meters above sea level. Animals grow to a length of 20–23 cm as adults. Adults have coloring akin to that of Hemitheconyx or Goniurosaurus.
This species, which is extremely uncommon in captivity and closely related to its relative the common leopard gecko, requires very minor care adjustments. This adorable little gecko, which is more of a savannah and woodland edge species, makes a unique yet reserved pet.
The East Indian leopard gecko, or Eublepharis hardwickii, is an insectivorous species that only feeds at night. It can be found beneath large stones and in hollows at the base of trees and favors moist and dry woodlands. It occasionally appeared in populated areas.
There is no CITES listing for this species. It is still uncommon in captivity yet incredibly fascinating to raise and breed. For an adult group, we recommend to use the enclosure no less than 500x450x400 cm. The bottom area should not be less than 0.2 m². Except for the breeding season, we keep adults separately.
Adult animals are fed crickets (4-6 each session, 3-4 times per week), Shefordella tartara (five immobilized insects per session, once per week), and baby mice (one per session for gestating females and females after they have produced a clutch).
