Description

Javan water monitor for sale (V.s.bivittatus) is a brightly colored water monitor, whereas V.s. togianus is a darker variety from Sulwesi and neighboring islands (Mertens 1959), and VS. andamanensis is a melanistic race from the Andaman Islands (Deraniyagala 1944).

Large lizards eat voraciously! For their first year of life, hatchling water monitors should be fed every day or every other day. The diet must have the nutrients required for exceptional growth throughout this time because this is when there will be the highest growth. A lizard that has been well-fed may lose interest in feeding for a few days, but smaller, more frequent meals may result in a continual appetite. Baby monitors typically eat a lot of insects, therefore their captive meals should match this. Gut-loaded crickets and other species of roaches are good options.
